Founded by Saint David Gareja in the sixth century, the monasteries of David Gareja are some of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world. In its totality, the David Gareja monastic complex is spread over 120 square kilometers of the south-eastern region of Georgia. Some of the most significant religious sites that have impacted the spiritual and general cultural life of the Georgian people are those of the David Gareja Wilderness. This book is a concise overview and photographic guide of a few monasteries in the complex, with an emphasis on the Lavra and Udabno Monastery.
