Saint Panteleimon was born in Nicomedia in 275 A.D under the name Pantoleon. Raised by a pagan father and a Christian mother, Pantoleon chose to become a Christian. He grew up to be a proficient physician, and began to practice medicine philanthropically, serving people in need for free. Because of his compassion to others, he was renamed “Panteleimon”, coming from the Greek word “eleimosini” or compassion. In the name of Christ, Panteleimon performed many miracles, including giving sight to a blind man. This miracle however, led to the martyrdom of the blind man who proclaimed his faith in Christ, as well as Panteleimon’s martyrdom, for performing a miracle in the name of God. July 27
